I can’t fault the quality of the gear available, my family have used VKS equipment for the last 15 years if not longer. What I do have an issue with is the poor customer experience. Customers are not always right, but in this case I am.
I purchased a set of Left Handed (LH) cricket pads online as well as a pair of Kookaburra trainers. I sent a sibling to collect the items as VKS shop opening hours are 9am-6pm,I work in city and couldn’t collect. Upon receiving the items, I had noticed that on the packaging for the pads the letters RH were covered in black Ink signifying that someone had attempted to cross out that the pads were RH pads and were being sold as LH. Upon trying the pads on, it was clear that the pads were for the right-handed player. As they were not only slanted to the right hander but also have writing and slight extra padding for the right handed player. I called the store up and informed them that I have been sold RH pads. I had also asked if I could get the next size up for the trainers. The man on the phone insisting on telling me they were for the left hander and offered an exchange for a different style (they did not have a Left-handed version of what they had sold me). I had decided to go into the store on Saturday morning before my cricket game and get a full refund. The man in store decided to question why I wanted a refund and that I had wasted his time by asking him to get a size up in the trainers. I subsequently explained to him that I didn’t have time to try on new pads and new trainers. He said “You have time for cricket but not to try on the shoes”. I went on to explain

    1. I don’t have to justify how I spend my time to him
    2. The shop opening hours do not fit around my busy schedule.

Regarding the pads that were sold to me, he informed me that they are ambidextrous (Use for both left and right-handed players). I informed him that not only did someone scribble out in black ink the RH sign on the packaging, but the pads were not for LH use. I also mentioned that the website is misleading as I purchased LH handed pads which were sold as RH pads and VKS are arguing that they are ambidextrous. If they are ambidextrous they should not be selling them as LH pads. He said I was unfair to say VKS are misleading, My response “was I not mislead? Another member of staff came across to the till, looked at me with disdain and spoke to me in a derogative manner. He tried to tell me they are ambidextrous. I demonstrated to him that the stickers and padding were for the Right-hand side of the pads. I went on to repeat what I had already said to the other member of staff.

I will also add that when administering the refund, words were muttered under the breath, there was tutting and the attitude towards me was incredibly rude.

Being nonchalant about wanting business is fine as it is their business. My family own a local business and sometimes the customers are wrong. However, to argue, be dismissive and blatantly rude to the customer is not the right way to go about things.

After years of my family using VKS equipment which is actually very high quality (as mentioned above) me and none of my family will be shopping in store and I would advise all cricketers who are not as savvy as me to be aware of the style of padding they are purchasing RH, LH or Ambidextrous.

    Marcus
