  I booked my appointment at Tower Hill Medical Centre to speak to the travel nurse about whether I should take a rabies vaccination before heading to East Asia. The NHS provided most vaccinations for free but unfortunately not rabies.
  I booked my appointment over the phone, putting down a deposit of £20 which i was told would be refunded if I attended the appointment on time. Nothing more was said. So far so good i thought...
  So i arrive at the very flashy establishment. No one at the reception... After feeling a little awkward for a while i managed to find my way upstairs to the travel clinic floor. The appointment itself was disappointing. The nurse was severely lacking in social skills, giving the impression she wanted me out as quickly as possible, not smiling once. Throughout the appointment she appeared to be trying to sell me all sorts of medication, using scare-mongering tactics to bully me into purchasing their medications. I had already bought malaria pills, and on hearing this the nurse went on to describe the crippling side effects, how they lead to psychotic episodes etc etc, presumably in an attempt to buy some different pills from herself.
  
  After the appointment i told the nurse i'd think about which, if any vaccinations i would be purchasing. As i was leaving the receptionist demanded £20 for the 'consultation'. I told her i was at no point informed about this charge, and that the 'consultation' was more of a sales pitch than trustworthy unbiased advice. I refused to pay, as i never agreed to this hidden payment. I was then informed that as they had already taken £20 in order to secure the appointment they will not be refunding this money, even though i attended on time. Is it a coinsidence that the 'refundable' cost of booking a appointment is the same as the cost of that appointment they later tell you to pay? I think not, they are trapping people.
  
  I left feeling foolish, ashamed and angry. As far as i am concerned Tower Hill Medical Centre had stolen £20 from me. Being such a small amount i can't justify receiving legal advice, although i am very tempted out of principle.
  
  Please do not support this borderline criminal activity by booking appointments with this centre.
