I have had first hand experience with Maberley Road playing fields since 2009 . And recently I have visited the site a bit more often.

The Southern side of the Playing fields is completely flanked by the Railway between Elmers End and Clock House, and trees are a barrier between .

The Western entrance side has a notice board on entry , but the Park diagram is more than basic and doesn't excite much.

On entering the Playing field or Rec , to the right or the W end there are yet more trees , and these are a barrier between the park and the back gardens of houses.

At the end of a long and wide public footpath at the E end of the large open space , there are yet more trees , some are taller Poplars , and these trees are a barrier between Maberley playing fields and a Piece of land owned by Nation Grid that has a UKPN sub station on the site. Churchfields Main sub.

A rectangular piece of land on this National Grid site is reportedly entitled to the local council , but national Grid wouldn't exchange it for land that Bromley Council could use to connect Maberley Playing fields and Churchfields Rec , to create a more direct Cycle and Pedestrian route.

Compulsory Purchase order was considered to obtain the 5m by 100 odd m stretch of land pre 2008 , but it came of nothing.

The NE of the park boundary behind the River is the Churchfields Primary school and it's playing field . This land was previously allotments .

The WNW of Maberley Rec consists of the River again but also a small patch of woodland around the L shaped intrusive corner of which the trees are a barrier to Dorset Road Allotment Gardens.

There is a short section of man made off Road cycle track in the wooded area. But this was blocked by a fallen tree that came down in the winter of 2013/4 . Of which also blocked the Woodland Path. The four trunks have not been removed .

I have noticed on my visits that there is a resident Robin , and he is quite friendly. Also I noticed some interesting Fungi during the autumn months.

    .

By my standards this Open space is pretty dull and uninteresting to look at , a vast expanse of rectangular shaped grass land. But it serves dog walkers well and is used regularly by Churchfields Primary school as a valuable access point with the Elmers End entrance. Also cyclists do use the path through.

Undoubtably the most interesting part of the land is the small Woodlands on the WNW corner. It makes for a nice if not small woodland walk .
