One of the two places to drink whisky in London. These guys know their stuff. They will find you the whisky you want every time. And the service is perfect.

I visited this Scotch Malt Whisky Society bar some weeks back and really felt so annoyed after my visit that I had to write a review. While the bar staff are fantastic, attentive and incredibly knowledgeable - a big thank you must go to the three there on that particular afternoon/evening, who supplied me with so much information and guidance on which whiskies I may enjoy during my visit – Jamie (a very interesting and knowledgeable Irish chap *I think*), Tyler (who definitely made me realise my love for the smokier, peatier whiskies and Harry (good luck on the travels you mentioned, I’m sure a friendly young man like yourself will go far). I digress. Before my visit I had a terrible time actually finding the place, so in my desperation I called the office at the sister SMWS venue at Greville Street and spoke with an English gentleman who was, to put it bluntly, rather quite rude and abrupt about the fact I was in Devonshire Square but couldn’t quite find the entrance. I visited on a Friday afternoon/evening and the venue was oddly quiet, especially for a specialist venue so close to Liverpool Street, although hardly surprising if the entrance is so hard to find - FYI it’s under Mac and Wild, to save anyone else dealing with the rudeness of the “gentleman” on the phone. It was during this visit that I was so horrified, that I felt the need to leave a review - having spent a rather pleasant afternoon chatting with the staff about my various trips to distilleries and quite enjoying chatting about my other love, wine, another English gentleman (who I believe was the manager - I overheard one of the staff call him Mike) turned up and quite frankly, I was shocked and disgusted by the degrading and insulting way he spoke to his staff, especially in front of stunned guests (by which point there was five of us - hence prompting my review and the letter I intend on writing to the SMWS head office. I must say, having had quite a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon/early evening in the establishment, it was definitely ruined by having to listen to the very uncomfortable way he spoke to his staff. I quickly settled up my tab and thanked the lovely staff for such a pleasant afternoon. I certainly won’t be returning to the establishment any time soon.

Been about six times over the past 8 months and most recently last week - definitely feel the venue is going down hill rapidly. Not the same atmosphere or quality of whisky. Overpriced and quite often a snooty attitude from the "members".
