  Although the outside did not look up to much due to building work next door, when you step in it is a different world. My group sat upstairs over 2 tables. Our organiser had discussed menu options and prices with the restaurant beforehand so we knew what we were getting and cost, which I found very reasonable for the amount we ate. Service was brilliant. Big round tables so lots of legroom. No complaints about the ladies loos, which were down one level on ground floor. Varying dishes, all delicious. Would definitely go again and again and again

  It’s been going for years and despite having had ups-and-downs, it remains one of my favourite places for lunch time dumplings in this part of town. More recent trips for supper have yielded well-done, (but not exceptional) renditions of standard Chinese dishes. Service is efficient, but waiters can be a little reticent to try-out their broken English. For all this, however, Imperial China remains a mature and reliable place to find a good bite to eat, always catering to walk-ins and being generally friendly.
  
  The sort-of-recently revamped menu is more focused - ditching some older niche choices - and the result is the better for it. Dishes ordered by my party looked good, were generously portioned and tasted great. Our sweep of chicken, prawn and beef dishes to share were all as expected. The wine list is on the toppy side with choice and value for money a little lacking. In summary, it could probably do with a revamp but that’s an unlikely prospect when so many happy punters keep coming back for more.
