An unbelievable place. Be very careful if you go here to use their computers as doing so may very well drive you nuts. Most of the computers will be probably broken and those that actually work will only do so at a snail’s pace and may most likely freeze in the middle of what you are doing and cause you to lose anything you had saved.

The Google chrome app is available on the computers but is, believe it or not, about 8 years out of date. Seemingly, they simply couldn’t be bothered downloading the latest version and updating it. Most other apps also need updating and, laughably, not even Microsoft Word works to any measure of normalcy. Because of the out of date apps I’d strongly advise against connecting your own device or flash drive, etc, to any of the computers as they have absolutely no defence against viruses or malware.

You might wonder why Holborn library simply don’t repair and maintain their computer equipment and I really believe it’s because their IT staff don’t have the competence to be able to do so.

If by chance you do go in and find a computer that actually works at a bearable speed then you’ll more likely than not have a raving drunk or drug addict somewhere in your near vicinity shouting and roaring like a demented demon. It’s the rare occasion when you’ll get a computer that actually works to coincide with the absence of the loud mouthed drunks.

There’s a number of drunks and/or drug addicts that show up regularly to shout and roar to their heart’s content. It seems that anytime they feel like letting off steam they head for Holborn library and perch themselves in the most convenient spot and roar and shout until they tire themselves out and fall asleep.
It is certainly not a library that you would associate with modern day central London.
