Was there some time ago. Whilst it definitely had shortcomings, I did not experience it as quite as appalling or frightening as some reviewers have suggested. Try to get opinions from as many different doctors as possible, and then try to get them to come to some kind of consensus with regards to your preferred treatment/diagnosis. This is what Mrs Thatcher would have done if she'd been in there. Bear in mind the doctors & nurses may have more expertise on your condition than you may have at the time. Yes theres risk of being overmedicated but people should realise that this can be a cost effective option for patients who continue to be unpleasantly disruptive both here and in the community.

If they are not compliant with your preferences and they are a lot of them then there is not much you can do, other than walk if you not under section.

NB- I just looked at the comment from Bethlehem below about the black nurses being lazy and dishonest. S/he is entitled to express an opinion but I think it needs to debated:

I found that if you were respectful and polite to these people they could be quite attentive and hard working and attentive - depending on the INDIVIDUAL!. I did encounter a couple of lazy white workers there as well. Not sure the black staff were more or less dishonest/corrupt than the white staff - was not able or inclined to launch a thorough investigation.

I experienced racism here which lead to me being wrongfully kept there. Nurses stole my food for themselves and a £20 pound note that was supposed to be kept for me at the reception. This may sound a bit racist, but it needs to be said. There is a culture of black nurses there, which is not good. They are not honest workers. They are very lazy. One of them even asked me to do her job for her.

The staff in general do this thing where they ignore anything you say, whether you have ideas for improvement or complaints. They just don't take you seriously. This hospital is a place where staff have 'permission' to act in ways that are disrespectful most likely because you have been sectioned. You WILL experience hell here if you have been sectioned. It WILL feel like you are living in a corrupt third world country where staff continuously break the rules.
