I kept my horse at Frith Manor from 2014 till December 2017, so am acquainted with the ways of the yard and its management. I think it is fair to say that Charlie and Rebecca (Bex) are neither coherent nor transparent in their dealings: in my opinion, they are all for what they can get.
If you are considering to keep your horse there, make sure you keep record of anything you buy from them (you will have to buy hay, bedding etc separately, and the transfer from their deposits to your shed is your responsibility- if they do it for you, you’ll be charged, even if your horse is on livery): a constant at the end of the month will be getting in touch with Charlie because you have been ‘accidentally’ charged for more than what you have taken.
The fields are never rotated, so fresh grass is in short supply throughout the year. What does this mean? It means that in the summer you have to buy hay from them. This would not be a problem if, from July through to November, the quality of the hay wasn’t so appalling. Despite this, you will still be charged more than £5 for each bale, and you will be forbidden from buying your monthly supply from anyone (and I mean anyone) that’s not them, even if your horse refuses to eat their low-quality hay.
If they offer a service, eg. clipping your horse, the rules forbid you from calling external suppliers, even if Bex wants to be paid £60 for a clip that anyone else would charge £40.
These are but some examples of the things you’ll have to put up with.
Having said this, the yard is ideally located, as it’s accessible by public transport. Hacking is also quite good and the yard tends to be kept within acceptable standards. In essence, it’s good for sharers and people who don’t have direct contact with management. I felt I was being held captive to their unfair ways, so I left.
