    Dyson - a high tech company with old fashioned ways

    Dyson Supersonic is the famous 300 pounds hairdryer. It might have great functionalities, the ability to transform frizzy hair, but these are functionalities I will never find out about and this is why:

    I bought the Supersonic from Dyson’s website six days ago. The shipping options were very customer-centric, offering morning/evening deliveries even on a Sunday. When my Supersonic finally came on a Sunday morning, it came with marks all over the handle - basically, an imperfect Supersonic. It has gone downhill since then.

    I reached out to the customer service team via email asking for an exchange, and they told me that an exchange could only be arranged on a weekday, and could potentially take place anytime between 9 and 5 as this process has been outsourced. Being a university student with no days off, this only return option is no option. Perhaps trying to delay the situation or to avoid an return, customer service asked for my availabilities and assured me that a member of the field service engineer team would be happy to do the exchange. Seeing that nothing has happened in three full days, I gave the customer service hotline a call. I found out that “an exchange has been arranged for today” (what?), and was soon contradicted by “there is no field service engineer in your area”. And no, I cannot exchange this in the Dyson store. Basically, the only one that seemed keen to correct Dyson’s mistake was me! What is the reason for lies after lies, just to make me angry enough to write about my experience?

    This might seem like a boring story to you but to me, this came as a huge disappointment. Who knew that a company with cutting-edge products and innovative technologies could operate such a ridiculous return model?

    I am keeping the email records for anyone interested.

    Great store and concept, however, the staff need some training on how and when to approach serious customers. Here is a breakdown

    1) I went into the store late morning and while the staff said hello (to which I responded) they just began to converse amongst themselves and carrying on with their conversation. I looked around and looked their way a few times but they were busy amongst themselves, chit chatting. I actually had to go stand near them silently and wait to get their attention.
    2) I was told about the next day free delivery, which I gladly accepted. I was also told that the delivery folks would make contact prior to coming. I never received any communication, instead the delivery company just showed up at the door.
    3) Twitter feedback didn't really help the matter.

    Great place to buy Dyson product. A bit small but enough to display their products. They have same promotion as online mall plus, you can get duty free paper not like online. Purchased V10 right after releasing it. Awesome. But hard to carry it to the airport..
